Alan and I have been training for the Rochester Marathon (Alan) and Half Marathon (me). I am by no means a runner. I actually did the Half last year after training with my sister- she got the wonderful news of becoming pregnant and was not able to run with me but we had a great time training. This year I am running with our Niece Heather. Thank goodness for Heather or I would never be able to do this- she's a great running partner and it has been very motivating. Alan is fast and a true runner, he's doing the race for time...Heather and I were running our last long run of 13.5 miles and we both decided that we just want to finish with a smile on our faces..time is not all that important. This is an improvement because when we started training we said our goal was just to finish.
OK, so about our cause. We are racing to raise awareness and possible donations to AHOPE for Children.
AHOPE among other community support services also provides two staffed children's homes in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia that care exclusively for orphans who are HIV positive and have no extended family to care for them. Children at the home receive anti-retroviral medications, balanced diet while also attending school. Many of these children are now finding their forever families through adoption!
To read more about AHOPE's mission and their community outreach programs check out their website at www.ahopeforchildren.org or you can just click the link on the right side of my blog.
Should you like to sponsor us you may make a donation two ways. First, on the web site there is a link to a reputable site called Network for Good. The button says DONATE NOW and it's embedded on their site. By clicking on that button, you are able to make donations. There is a "designation" field you may indicate "Alan Pogroszewski Marathon, Jennifer Pogroszewski Half Marathon. Second, you may send in checks to:
AHOPE for Children
5023 N. Parkway Calabasas
Calabasas, CA 91302
I would suggest that if you sponsor us this way please indicate our marathon/half- marathon on the memo of the check. (AHOPE will track the donations and let us know how much we raised)
We'd love it if you would at the very least check out their website and consider a donation in the future...there are so many ways you can help to support these kids and their families!
